Narrative:
While approaching final approach course, approximately 14.5 NM from pdx crew received clearance on a 180 degree heading to intercept runway 10R ILS, descend and maintain 2500 ft, maintain 2500 ft until sauvi intersection, cleared for ILS 10R. At approximately 2800 ft GPWS alert sounded twice. First officer executed escape maneuver and climbed to 3500 ft. Pdx approach was apprised of the escape maneuver. Subsequently, approach and landing clearance and execution completed to normal landing. Suggest pdx approach limit descent clearance to 3000 ft until sauvi as published, not 2500 ft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CARGO ACFT HAD TO FLY ESCAPE MANEUVER WHEN GPWS IS RECEIVED.
Narrative: WHILE APCHING FINAL APCH COURSE, APPROX 14.5 NM FROM PDX CREW RECEIVED CLRNC ON A 180 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT RWY 10R ILS, DSND AND MAINTAIN 2500 FT, MAINTAIN 2500 FT UNTIL SAUVI INTXN, CLRED FOR ILS 10R. AT APPROX 2800 FT GPWS ALERT SOUNDED TWICE. FO EXECUTED ESCAPE MANEUVER AND CLBED TO 3500 FT. PDX APCH WAS APPRISED OF THE ESCAPE MANEUVER. SUBSEQUENTLY, APCH AND LNDG CLRNC AND EXECUTION COMPLETED TO NORMAL LNDG. SUGGEST PDX APCH LIMIT DSCNT CLRNC TO 3000 FT UNTIL SAUVI AS PUBLISHED, NOT 2500 FT.
