Narrative:
We had just completed a landing and takeoff on runway 35L and were on downwind at 1500 ft AGL for right traffic runway 35R (final landing). Our TCASII showed traffic at about 2 mi and 700 ft below us, climbing. We started looking with no contact. TCASII indicated he was still climbing and closing. When the TCASII indicated 300 ft below and still climbing and closing, I took control of the aircraft and added power and started climbing out the exact same moment the TCASII said to climb immediately . We passed over the aircraft (looked like a cessna 182) and cleared the conflict. During this maneuver, we accidentally penetrated the den class B airspace by 400 ft (2400 ft AGL). We immediately descended back down to traffic pattern altitude (1500 ft AGL). The tower did not have the traffic on radio and was unaware of his presence. It appears that centennial airport has enough local traffic in its vicinity to warrant radar coverage. There is no radar coverage at centennial airport at this time. Thank god for TCASII!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF AN LTT CPR JET ACFT CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA WHILE IN AN ARPT TFC PATTERN RESULTING IN PENETRATION OF AN OVERLYING TCA (B) AIRSPACE.
Narrative: WE HAD JUST COMPLETED A LNDG AND TKOF ON RWY 35L AND WERE ON DOWNWIND AT 1500 FT AGL FOR R TFC RWY 35R (FINAL LNDG). OUR TCASII SHOWED TFC AT ABOUT 2 MI AND 700 FT BELOW US, CLBING. WE STARTED LOOKING WITH NO CONTACT. TCASII INDICATED HE WAS STILL CLBING AND CLOSING. WHEN THE TCASII INDICATED 300 FT BELOW AND STILL CLBING AND CLOSING, I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND ADDED PWR AND STARTED CLBING OUT THE EXACT SAME MOMENT THE TCASII SAID TO CLB IMMEDIATELY . WE PASSED OVER THE ACFT (LOOKED LIKE A CESSNA 182) AND CLRED THE CONFLICT. DURING THIS MANEUVER, WE ACCIDENTALLY PENETRATED THE DEN CLASS B AIRSPACE BY 400 FT (2400 FT AGL). WE IMMEDIATELY DSNDED BACK DOWN TO TFC PATTERN ALT (1500 FT AGL). THE TWR DID NOT HAVE THE TFC ON RADIO AND WAS UNAWARE OF HIS PRESENCE. IT APPEARS THAT CENTENNIAL ARPT HAS ENOUGH LCL TFC IN ITS VICINITY TO WARRANT RADAR COVERAGE. THERE IS NO RADAR COVERAGE AT CENTENNIAL ARPT AT THIS TIME. THANK GOD FOR TCASII!
