Narrative:
Air carrier flight jan/mon/94 sju-bwi diverted to jfk due to airport closure (bwi) due to snow/ice. On initial approach to jfk encountered severe turbulence for several mins with aircraft sustaining 90 KT airspeed fluctuations and altdevs of plus or minus 500 ft. Suspect deep low pressure through vicinity of nyc, while we were not #1 on approach, we were first to abandon the area due to turbulence. At this time, 7 other flts abandoned jfk also. Supplemental information from acn 262524: we had altdevs of plus or minus 500 ft and airspeed fluctuations from 180 KTS - 275 KTS. Severe turbulence was encountered between 6000-2000 ft around the jfk terminal area.

Title: ANA ACR WDB EXPERIENCED TURB APCHING JFK.
Narrative: ACR FLT JAN/MON/94 SJU-BWI DIVERTED TO JFK DUE TO ARPT CLOSURE (BWI) DUE TO SNOW/ICE. ON INITIAL APCH TO JFK ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURB FOR SEVERAL MINS WITH ACFT SUSTAINING 90 KT AIRSPD FLUCTUATIONS AND ALTDEVS OF PLUS OR MINUS 500 FT. SUSPECT DEEP LOW PRESSURE THROUGH VICINITY OF NYC, WHILE WE WERE NOT #1 ON APCH, WE WERE FIRST TO ABANDON THE AREA DUE TO TURB. AT THIS TIME, 7 OTHER FLTS ABANDONED JFK ALSO. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 262524: WE HAD ALTDEVS OF PLUS OR MINUS 500 FT AND AIRSPD FLUCTUATIONS FROM 180 KTS - 275 KTS. SEVERE TURB WAS ENCOUNTERED BTWN 6000-2000 FT AROUND THE JFK TERMINAL AREA.
