Narrative:

Was notified by dfw operations at XV45 pm that aircraft X was down for the night due to dmg on rear cargo door by which the crew called in range and notified dfw operations. This tells me as a dispatcher, that this aircraft and flight should have never left sgf (its departure point) without a call to maintenance or the dispatcher. I verified with maintenance and they received a call when the aircraft arrived into dfw. I verified with sgf and agent told me the dmg was already there and was to notify the crew, but they came out and put their baggage in the cargo bin and noticed the damage. Once again the dispatcher was left out of the loop.
