Narrative:

En route of flight shuttle bos-lga at 16000 ft, heading west, ZBW advised us that we had VFR traffic at approximately our 11 O'clock position heading east and climbing to 15500 ft and closing on us. We tried to get a visual on this traffic (a saab). Shortly thereafter, we got a TCASII advisory and then a TCASII command to 'climb, climb.' I did, to 17000 ft, and shortly thereafter back to 16000 ft after the traffic passed below us. In our climb to 17000 ft our TCASII showed the traffic passed below us at 400 ft and climbing. After we went back to 16000 ft the rest of our flight was normal. We never did get a visual on that other traffic.
