Narrative:

The following report is about an in-flight near-miss between 2 single engine aircraft at brown field airport, san diego, ca. I was flying in the pattern at brown field doing touch and goes with my instructor. I was demonstrating a short field landing with a 50 ft obstacle. As I prepared the aircraft for the landing, brown tower cleared us for a touch and go on runway 26R. On final approach to runway 26R, instructor and I were making final landing checks, gear, power settings, flaps and airspeed. All was well. At approximately 50 ft above the ground, passing the runway numbers, I saw an airplane directly below my aircraft. I initiated a go around and avoided a collision before tower called for a go around. To avoid a collision with the grumman tiger Y, I performed a hard right turn and cleared the grumman's tail with about 15 ft to spare. This all took place within a fraction of a second 50 ft above the ground. After avoiding the grumman, I looked back and noticed that the grumman landed as if nothing was wrong. He had to have seen my aircraft fly by his. Brown tower then called to grumman and said that 'you sir, were instructed to land on runway 26L.' the pilot's response was merely 'sorry.' after the incident, I returned for a normal unobstructed landing, and instructor called the tower and talked to the supervisor.

Narrative: THE FOLLOWING RPT IS ABOUT AN INFLT NEAR-MISS BTWN 2 SINGLE ENG ACFT AT BROWN FIELD ARPT, SAN DIEGO, CA. I WAS FLYING IN THE PATTERN AT BROWN FIELD DOING TOUCH AND GOES WITH MY INSTRUCTOR. I WAS DEMONSTRATING A SHORT FIELD LNDG WITH A 50 FT OBSTACLE. AS I PREPARED THE ACFT FOR THE LNDG, BROWN TWR CLRED US FOR A TOUCH AND GO ON RWY 26R. ON FINAL APCH TO RWY 26R, INSTRUCTOR AND I WERE MAKING FINAL LNDG CHKS, GEAR, PWR SETTINGS, FLAPS AND AIRSPD. ALL WAS WELL. AT APPROX 50 FT ABOVE THE GND, PASSING THE RWY NUMBERS, I SAW AN AIRPLANE DIRECTLY BELOW MY ACFT. I INITIATED A GAR AND AVOIDED A COLLISION BEFORE TWR CALLED FOR A GAR. TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH THE GRUMMAN TIGER Y, I PERFORMED A HARD R TURN AND CLRED THE GRUMMAN'S TAIL WITH ABOUT 15 FT TO SPARE. THIS ALL TOOK PLACE WITHIN A FRACTION OF A SECOND 50 FT ABOVE THE GND. AFTER AVOIDING THE GRUMMAN, I LOOKED BACK AND NOTICED THAT THE GRUMMAN LANDED AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. HE HAD TO HAVE SEEN MY ACFT FLY BY HIS. BROWN TWR THEN CALLED TO GRUMMAN AND SAID THAT 'YOU SIR, WERE INSTRUCTED TO LAND ON RWY 26L.' THE PLT'S RESPONSE WAS MERELY 'SORRY.' AFTER THE INCIDENT, I RETURNED FOR A NORMAL UNOBSTRUCTED LNDG, AND INSTRUCTOR CALLED THE TWR AND TALKED TO THE SUPVR.
