Narrative:

After landing at bos airport, we taxied to gate. We were about 2 ft from stopping for gate alignment when we stopped abruptly. At the time I was making the PA for flight attendants to prepare for arrival. I saw the centerline guideman then gave the stop sign and immediately started shaking his head. He then indicated something was wrong on the right side of the aircraft. I looked out the window and saw 1 wingtip was against the safety RAIL of a baggage freight loader. The approach to the gate was obscured by deicing fluid so we really had to concentrate on the faint lead- in line. The area seemed to be ready for our arrival with the guideman in the proper position to marshall us in. No wing walker was required for the gate arrival.
