Narrative:
Response to an RA on our TCASII. The intruder was a radar controled airliner climbing to 10000 ft on the dfw departure. We were level at 11000 ft on the aqn 9 arrival. ATC issued a TA. TCASII issued a 'monitor vertical speed' alert. We saw the aircraft coming but then TCASII issued a 'climb, climb' alert and we followed it. We topped out at 12000 ft before coming back down. ATC heard our climb and then cleared us back down to 6000 ft. Uneventful landing followed. ATC did good. Crew did good. Other crew leveled at 10000 ft like they were supposed to. Strictly a software problem.
