Narrative:
Aircraft departed runway. Estimated 1000-1500 ft after touchdown. Estimated angle was 30 degrees to runway. Speed about 65-50 mph. No damage to aircraft or airport property. Improper pilot technique to counter wind. (I.e., crosswind landing), right quartering tailwind. Solution to prevent recurrence: after my flight, within 15 mins, airport changed landing direction. Pilot: keep control between main wheel to tailwheel transition. Staying alert to wxvaning effect. Pilot had many (1000's) hours in tailwheel aircraft and pilot complacency was a contributing factor to this embarrassing incident. Keep flying aircraft to the hangar
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RWY EXCURSION AFTER LOSS OF ACFT CTL.
Narrative: ACFT DEPARTED RWY. ESTIMATED 1000-1500 FT AFTER TOUCHDOWN. ESTIMATED ANGLE WAS 30 DEGS TO RWY. SPD ABOUT 65-50 MPH. NO DAMAGE TO ACFT OR ARPT PROPERTY. IMPROPER PLT TECHNIQUE TO COUNTER WIND. (I.E., XWIND LNDG), R QUARTERING TAILWIND. SOLUTION TO PREVENT RECURRENCE: AFTER MY FLT, WITHIN 15 MINS, ARPT CHANGED LNDG DIRECTION. PLT: KEEP CTL BTWN MAIN WHEEL TO TAILWHEEL TRANSITION. STAYING ALERT TO WXVANING EFFECT. PLT HAD MANY (1000'S) HRS IN TAILWHEEL ACFT AND PLT COMPLACENCY WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THIS EMBARRASSING INCIDENT. KEEP FLYING ACFT TO THE HANGAR
