Narrative:
We departed for a local instruction flight from johnson county executive airport. We did high work and hood work and after that I reduced the power to idle for a simulated engine failure. My student established the best glide speed and looked for an emergency field. My student did not apply the carburetor heater so I did that for him. So we descended from 3000 ft MSL and my student set up for a left base for a landing to the north (wind 110 degrees at 10 KTS at ojc). When we were too high (still on base) for the field he picked, I pointed out to continue his base for a field next to his. When we turned on final (field was faced north), we selected full flaps. At 1600 MSL, we also did a go around. My student applied full power, I pushed in carburetor heat and brought the flaps to 20 degree. When the engine produced only 1500 RPM, I took over the airplane and put the mixture full rich. Still that did not change anything on the engine performance. I reduced and increased the power and that didn't change. Meanwhile, we noticed the flaps didn't come up, so we moved the flap handle full down and back up and then the flaps moved up. Because in front of us were trees. We were at that time too high for the field we picked in for simulated emergency. I made a right turn to the southeast to line up for a bean field. At the time we crossed the threshold of the bean field, we still had the throttle full, carburetor heat in and mixture rich and the engine was still producing 1500 RPM (nothing seemed to change to make it better or worse) because we still were planning to go around. We also reduced the flaps to 0 degree. At the time we were over the bean field I decided it is not to go anywhere so I reduced power and landed. The landing was fine. The airplane collected dirt. But we forget to put any flaps down, because in the last second we decided to land.

Title: INSTRUCTOR AND SPI SIMULATING EMER LNDG HAS A REAL ONE DUE LACK OF ENG PWR.
Narrative: WE DEPARTED FOR A LCL INSTRUCTION FLT FROM JOHNSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE ARPT. WE DID HIGH WORK AND HOOD WORK AND AFTER THAT I REDUCED THE PWR TO IDLE FOR A SIMULATED ENG FAILURE. BECAUSE IN FRONT OF US WERE TREES. WE WERE AT THAT TIME TOO HIGH FOR THE FIELD WE PICKED IN FOR SIMULATED EMER. I MADE A R TURN TO THE SE TO LINE UP FOR A BEAN FIELD. AT THE TIME WE CROSSED THE THRESHOLD OF THE BEAN FIELD, WE STILL HAD THE THROTTLE FULL, CARB HEAT IN AND MIXTURE RICH AND THE ENG WAS STILL PRODUCING 1500 RPM (NOTHING SEEMED TO CHANGE TO MAKE IT BETTER OR WORSE) BECAUSE WE STILL WERE PLANNING TO GAR. WE ALSO REDUCED THE FLAPS TO 0 DEG. AT THE TIME WE WERE OVER THE BEAN FIELD I DECIDED IT IS NOT TO GO ANYWHERE SO I REDUCED PWR AND LANDED. THE LNDG WAS FINE. THE AIRPLANE COLLECTED DIRT. BUT WE FORGET TO PUT ANY FLAPS DOWN, BECAUSE IN THE LAST SECOND WE DECIDED TO LAND.
