Narrative:
Atw = runway 29/11, and D311 with txwys. Wind was 17 mph at 150. Ground advised to taxi to runway 21. Taking the shortest route to runway 21 I went past midfield taxiway but then noticed the taxiway to runway 21 seemed to have dirt piled near it, so I stopped and asked ground if I could get to runway 21 this way. Ground asked if I had ATIS and I replied negative. Was advised that taxiway had been closed for 10 days, to do a 180, and take a right. I did so and taxied on midfield taxiway, but I went past my right turn to runway 21 taxiway. I then stopped short of runway 21. Ground asked if I had crossed the yellow line and I replied that I had. Ground asked what I was doing and I said I was turned around. As I was stopped in a hard left into the wind I completed a 180 back to runway 21 taxiway. Ground said if I wanted a midfield takeoff to advise. I did not with a 17 mph crosswind so I made a left on the 21 taxiway to the end of runway 21. Takeoff uneventful. Incident would not have occurred if: I had been given the anticipated runway 11 which was the easiest to get to, if I had listened to ATIS so that 1 'goof' wouldn't beget another 'goof,' if I had not 'assumed' runway 11 (150 wind) and had replanned my taxi route, if ground had advised taxi route.

Title: SMA PLT CONFUSED, TAXIES BEYOND HOLD LINE.
Narrative: ATW = RWY 29/11, AND D311 WITH TXWYS. WIND WAS 17 MPH AT 150. GND ADVISED TO TAXI TO RWY 21. TAKING THE SHORTEST RTE TO RWY 21 I WENT PAST MIDFIELD TXWY BUT THEN NOTICED THE TXWY TO RWY 21 SEEMED TO HAVE DIRT PILED NEAR IT, SO I STOPPED AND ASKED GND IF I COULD GET TO RWY 21 THIS WAY. GND ASKED IF I HAD ATIS AND I REPLIED NEGATIVE. WAS ADVISED THAT TXWY HAD BEEN CLOSED FOR 10 DAYS, TO DO A 180, AND TAKE A R. I DID SO AND TAXIED ON MIDFIELD TXWY, BUT I WENT PAST MY R TURN TO RWY 21 TXWY. I THEN STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 21. GND ASKED IF I HAD CROSSED THE YELLOW LINE AND I REPLIED THAT I HAD. GND ASKED WHAT I WAS DOING AND I SAID I WAS TURNED AROUND. AS I WAS STOPPED IN A HARD L INTO THE WIND I COMPLETED A 180 BACK TO RWY 21 TXWY. GND SAID IF I WANTED A MIDFIELD TKOF TO ADVISE. I DID NOT WITH A 17 MPH XWIND SO I MADE A L ON THE 21 TXWY TO THE END OF RWY 21. TKOF UNEVENTFUL. INCIDENT WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED IF: I HAD BEEN GIVEN THE ANTICIPATED RWY 11 WHICH WAS THE EASIEST TO GET TO, IF I HAD LISTENED TO ATIS SO THAT 1 'GOOF' WOULDN'T BEGET ANOTHER 'GOOF,' IF I HAD NOT 'ASSUMED' RWY 11 (150 WIND) AND HAD REPLANNED MY TAXI RTE, IF GND HAD ADVISED TAXI RTE.
