Narrative:
While taxiing out we received amended taxi clearance. After making turn automatic taxiway, we continued after start check for company pouch. At this time we noticed cargo door light on and company personnel on the ramp waving. We notified ground control and company personnel came to aircraft and secured cargo door. This happened in part due to the annunciator light being quite dim and on the far right corner of the panel. With sunglasses on, it was quite difficult to see. Also, as this was a 'power out' gate, the standard 'brakes off door lights out' call to a pushback crew wasn't made, and the only checklist reference to the door lights is at the end of the after start check. We are allowed to complete this while taxiing out. More vigilance on my part would also have helped to avoid this embarrassing event.
