Narrative:

Departing pdk to southeast, switched to atl departure control in climb passing 1000 ft AGL. Initial contact ok but soon lost reception, signals very weak and loud static on both radios. Did not climb for fear of intruding into class B airspace. Stayed below 3000 ft and continued east until east of class B, then began climb and re-established communication with atl approach. Squawked 7600 briefly before re-establishing radio communication. Communication was lost due to low altitude required to remain below class B recommend establishing remote antenna site on stone mountain to fill gap in radio coverage.
