Narrative:

I realize that this does not fall within the 24 hour rule but I was not the offender. We were at cruise at flight level 290-295 mi northwest of slate run VOR at AM44 zulu talking to ZOB on frequency 134.12. We got a TCASII alert of traffic -- when we looked at the screen the other aircraft was at our altitude and got to at least within 5 mi of us on the TCASII screen. We were issued a vector and the controller questioned the altitude of the other aircraft they had either picked up the wrong one, or were issued the wrong one. ATC said that no conflict existed.
