Narrative:
Flight operations manual says landing announcement 'flight attendants prepare for landing' is to be given 5 mins before landing. As PNF I had the responsibility to do this. I forgot, until after the gear went down and I did the final checklist. The first item on the checklist is 'landing announcement -- complete,' so I made the announcement at this time, which was between 2 and 3 mins before landing. This does not give the flight attendants enough time to stow things and get their seats. In fact, the 'a' flight attendant was very irate and said the flight attendants barely made it to their seats and said this was potentially a very unsafe situation. She is right. This is the second time I have done this during the 6 months I have flown this airplane. As a reminder, I now clip the checklist to the chart clip in front of me. This reminds me to make the announcement on time.

IN FACT, THE 'A' FLT ATTENDANT WAS VERY IRATE AND SAID THE FLT ATTENDANTS BARELY MADE IT TO THEIR SEATS AND SAID THIS WAS POTENTIALLY A VERY UNSAFE SIT. SHE IS RIGHT. THIS REMINDS ME TO MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT ON TIME.
