Narrative:
At least 4 of us did not hear a 'prepare for landing' announcement from the cockpit. The language flight attendant and myself made the prepare cabin announcement on our own. We had to immediately be seated without completing safety checks. The doc box was by door 1L and I threw it down the 'hallway' towards the cockpit to get it out of the way. The lavatory doors were not locked and 1 flight attendant who had been in the lavatory barely made it to a nearby jumpseat (1L cross aisle). Her assigned jumpseat was 4L. Discussed the situation with the cockpit who claimed they did make the announcement. However; the person who said he made the announcement admitted that he did not verify that the PA went through (evidently; there is a display in the cockpit) because he was watching for traffic.
