Narrative:
Altitude alerter indicated assigned altitude of 7000 ft. Noticed incursion at 8500 ft. Altitude alerter volume was too low to call attention -- could barely be heard. Also, ATC may have assigned 10000 ft and PNF did not enter into the box.
