Narrative:
Flow and checklist completed but push and engine start interrupted due to lack of wingwalkers and traffic on ramp. It appears that ignition was turned off so that subsequent engine start was unsuccessful. #2 engine start discontinued and #1 engine started. Ground personnel then notified us to cut off engine #2. We verified #2 was off. Ground personnel indicated that they had seen a brief flame from #2 but nothing more. We returned to the gate.
