Narrative:
Was cleared into position and hold. Then we understood cleared for takeoff but not positive due to language and non standard 2PHRASEOLOGY. We asked if we were cleared for takeoff and received an affirmative. Takeoff roll started and then we were told to hold our position. Shortly afterwards the aircraft that the tower was trying to get us in front of passed overhead. We were cleared for takeoff shortly afterwards. We think everything was standard except for the phraseology and it was a simple separation problem.

Title: FLC OF LGT STARTED TKOF ROLL AFTER CLRED FOR TKOF AND THEN INSTRUCTED TO HOLD POS RESULTING IN ANOTHER ACFT OVER FLYING THEM ON A GAR.
Narrative: WAS CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD. THEN WE UNDERSTOOD CLRED FOR TKOF BUT NOT POSITIVE DUE TO LANGUAGE AND NON STANDARD 2PHRASEOLOGY. WE ASKED IF WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF AND RECEIVED AN AFFIRMATIVE. TKOF ROLL STARTED AND THEN WE WERE TOLD TO HOLD OUR POS. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS THE ACFT THAT THE TWR WAS TRYING TO GET US IN FRONT OF PASSED OVERHEAD. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. WE THINK EVERYTHING WAS STANDARD EXCEPT FOR THE PHRASEOLOGY AND IT WAS A SIMPLE SEPARATION PROB.
