Narrative:

After takeoff from runway 3, I was offered an early turnout from runway 3 at gcn, standard procedures are direct to 'the square' (landmark) after the square transition to the blue 1 direct. While en route to the square, a cessna-310 passed less than 500 ft off my left wing. Vertical separation: zero. The other aircraft was following directions from gcn tower. I believe the problem was complacency on behalf of gcn tower. Compounded with an aircraft unfamiliar with his environment. Pattern altitude is 7500 ft MSL, miss occurred at about 9000 ft MSL.
