Narrative:
Reported to aircraft for scheduled flight. Mechanic said #1 EPR gauge inoperative. Replaced gauge. Ran engine. Gauge still inoperative. Flight crew prepared for departure. Just before departure, mechanic comes to cockpit with log book, showing deferral of #1 EPR gauge inoperative. Puts orange deferral sticker on inoperative EPR gauge. We depart. On arrival at destination, we were told that the deferred items #1 EPR gauge was incorrectly perceived as EPR/tat gauge and should not have been dispatched inoperative. We later discovered that the misunderstanding came between cockpit mechanic and the mechanic that he radioed to report the discrepancy.
