Narrative:

I rented a C-150 from FBO at maui, hawaii airport. I flew to the big island of hawaii and experienced what I thought was unusual noise in the engine (sounded like water in gas). This occurred about 5 mi from the coast of hawaii. I attempted contact on 122.9 to no avail 3 times to the upocu airport. It was closed (notamed out) and had xx's on it so I flew over to make sure no one was there and landed to the side of the runway. I cleaned the small amount of water from the tanks and took off because it was late in the day and this airport is in a very remote location. I then flew directly back to the FBO at maui airport, no other problems noted on the return.
