Narrative:

On apr/xx/94, I was plting a PA-28 R-180 and after a 2.2 hour passenger flts landed with the gear retracted. None of the gear warning system worked. The horns did not activate with 25 degrees of flap or with the throttle at idle. The control tower gave no type of verbal warning or light signal indicating that there was a problem with my gear. I did not check for the 3 green gear down lights and that was the ultimate cause of the incident. I have a piper cherokee 6 that I fly regularly and it is my feeling that I used the mental checklist normally associated with the 6 and not the arrow. I am not suggesting. That this incident was caused by anyone but myself. I do feel, however, that if the tower were to adopt a policy of telling pilots of retractable gear aircraft to check gear down as part of their landing clearance, it would be very helpful. I have noticed that military controllers do this and I think it is a good practice. Also, I think extra awareness in the tower would have been helpful. I had to turn the radio on after coming to a stop and call the tower to ask for assistance. No fire trucks ever arrived and the only help that came was the assistant airport manager and the head of the maintenance crew for the field. The last time I had talked to the tower was on a base leg approximately 3 mi out. This leads me to believe that from the last time I talked to them on base to the time I called them after the incident: they were unaware of my exact position and situation.

Title: ACFT LANDS GEAR UP.

Narrative: ON APR/XX/94, I WAS PLTING A PA-28 R-180 AND AFTER A 2.2 HR PAX FLTS LANDED WITH THE GEAR RETRACTED. NONE OF THE GEAR WARNING SYS WORKED. THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY ANYONE BUT MYSELF. I DO FEEL, HOWEVER, THAT IF THE TWR WERE TO ADOPT A POLICY OF TELLING PLTS OF RETRACTABLE GEAR ACFT TO CHK GEAR DOWN AS PART OF THEIR LNDG CLRNC, IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL. I HAVE NOTICED THAT MIL CTLRS DO THIS AND I THINK IT IS A GOOD PRACTICE. ALSO, I THINK EXTRA AWARENESS IN THE TWR WOULD HAVE BEEN HELPFUL. I HAD TO TURN THE RADIO ON AFTER COMING TO A STOP AND CALL THE TWR TO ASK FOR ASSISTANCE. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT FROM THE LAST TIME I TALKED TO THEM ON BASE TO THE TIME I CALLED THEM AFTER THE INCIDENT: THEY WERE UNAWARE OF MY EXACT POS AND SIT.
