Narrative:
Taxi on to runway 19R at mci, #1 thrust reverser unlock message from the flight warning computer came on. I cycled the #1 thrust reverser and the message from the flight warning computer extinguished. I taxied clear of the runway with the tower's permission. The first officer and I discussed the system and how it works. I chose to cycle the reverser several times, each time the system operated normal. So we concluded that there was nothing to report to maintenance so we returned to the runway for takeoff without any problem or incident. My point of interest is that as soon as anything takes place that you need to evaluate, before you can , the controllers want to get in the middle of it all. We are the pilots that are not only trained to fly but to operate the system to evaluate their meanings. Many times the true meaning of these events are lost by being interrupted by controllers trying to evaluate the problem for you. Someone has to be trusted to do the job. Why not allow us to do our job. Give us the best training available and give us a chance!

Title: MLG CREW HAS THRUST REVERSER UNLOCK MESSAGE.
Narrative: TAXI ON TO RWY 19R AT MCI, #1 THRUST REVERSER UNLOCK MESSAGE FROM THE FLT WARNING COMPUTER CAME ON. I CYCLED THE #1 THRUST REVERSER AND THE MESSAGE FROM THE FLT WARNING COMPUTER EXTINGUISHED. I TAXIED CLR OF THE RWY WITH THE TWR'S PERMISSION. THE FO AND I DISCUSSED THE SYS AND HOW IT WORKS. I CHOSE TO CYCLE THE REVERSER SEVERAL TIMES, EACH TIME THE SYS OPERATED NORMAL. SO WE CONCLUDED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING TO RPT TO MAINT SO WE RETURNED TO THE RWY FOR TKOF WITHOUT ANY PROB OR INCIDENT. MY POINT OF INTEREST IS THAT AS SOON AS ANYTHING TAKES PLACE THAT YOU NEED TO EVALUATE, BEFORE YOU CAN , THE CTLRS WANT TO GET IN THE MIDDLE OF IT ALL. WE ARE THE PLTS THAT ARE NOT ONLY TRAINED TO FLY BUT TO OPERATE THE SYS TO EVALUATE THEIR MEANINGS. MANY TIMES THE TRUE MEANING OF THESE EVENTS ARE LOST BY BEING INTERRUPTED BY CTLRS TRYING TO EVALUATE THE PROB FOR YOU. SOMEONE HAS TO BE TRUSTED TO DO THE JOB. WHY NOT ALLOW US TO DO OUR JOB.
