Narrative:
1) ATIS was 65 overcast C80 overcast 15 mi visibility winds 230 degrees/5 59 degrees fahrenheit/42 degrees fahrenheit departure's runway 22L, ILS runway 22L, runway 22R closed, altitude 30.15 ft. Received taxi instructions from newark tower, right turn out of parking, left on 'a,' right on 'B,' cross runway 4L. I did not hear the departure runway given, I assumed runway 22L. During taxi we entered 'D' taxiway which was partially blocked with cones. We never received the runway change from tower. Once we realized the change I went heads down to change 1) FMS, 2) flight page, 3) initiation page, 4) recompute airspds, and change departure. This was a short taxi to runway 4R and entails a large workload for a 2 man cockpit. We need current ATIS for proper and timely planning. We need accurate taxi instructions from the controllers.
