Narrative:
In cruise at FL310 TCASII indicated traffic at 500 ft below and 3 mi straight ahead immediately went to RA with 'climb.' vsi showed command of plus 2000 FPM climb initiated climb by disconnecting autoplt. At FL318, TCASII gave 'monitor vertical speed' then traffic disappeared with no 'clear of conflict.' returned to altitude of FL310. ATC center said closest aircraft to us was 2 O'clock 12 mi at FL230. Supplemental information from acn 288431: a false RA occurred causing problems in the sector. No other aircraft in vicinity of air carrier X. He responded to RA by climbing. It just disrupted the sector. Supplemental information from acn 288629: we returned to our assigned altitude. No visual sighting occurred, and no ATC contact was made with our conflict. Suspect TCASII false target.

Title: PLTDEV.
Narrative: IN CRUISE AT FL310 TCASII INDICATED TFC AT 500 FT BELOW AND 3 MI STRAIGHT AHEAD IMMEDIATELY WENT TO RA WITH 'CLB.' VSI SHOWED COMMAND OF PLUS 2000 FPM CLB INITIATED CLB BY DISCONNECTING AUTOPLT. AT FL318, TCASII GAVE 'MONITOR VERT SPD' THEN TFC DISAPPEARED WITH NO 'CLR OF CONFLICT.' RETURNED TO ALT OF FL310. ATC CTR SAID CLOSEST ACFT TO US WAS 2 O'CLOCK 12 MI AT FL230. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 288431: A FALSE RA OCCURRED CAUSING PROBS IN THE SECTOR. NO OTHER ACFT IN VICINITY OF ACR X. HE RESPONDED TO RA BY CLBING. IT JUST DISRUPTED THE SECTOR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 288629: WE RETURNED TO OUR ASSIGNED ALT. NO VISUAL SIGHTING OCCURRED, AND NO ATC CONTACT WAS MADE WITH OUR CONFLICT. SUSPECT TCASII FALSE TARGET.
