Narrative:
As we took the runway, I was accomplishing the taxi/takeoff checklist. The captain had pushed up the throttles and was taxiing into position for takeoff. As we took position, someone came on the radio and said 'tower, you've just had a cessna blown onto its wing and then hit its propeller.' we were not sure at first who was responsible for the jet blast. Tower responded with, 'that aircraft was cleared to maneuver at its own risk.' we took off and upon our return later in the day, discovered that the cessna who had been holding 150 ft away from us had requested to back taxi off the prepared taxi surface. Apparently, he had snuck up behind us just as we were taking the runway. Because we were on tower frequency, we did not know he was there and were not warned to monitor our thrust. Supplemental information from acn 288477: although I feel really bad about it, I don't feel my power was too excessive. Neither tower or ground advised me that I had a light aircraft behind me.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MLG TAXIING INTO POS AND HOLD. JET BLAST BLOWS CESSNA ONTO ITS WING AND PROP.
Narrative: AS WE TOOK THE RWY, I WAS ACCOMPLISHING THE TAXI/TKOF CHKLIST. THE CAPT HAD PUSHED UP THE THROTTLES AND WAS TAXIING INTO POS FOR TKOF. AS WE TOOK POS, SOMEONE CAME ON THE RADIO AND SAID 'TWR, YOU'VE JUST HAD A CESSNA BLOWN ONTO ITS WING AND THEN HIT ITS PROP.' WE WERE NOT SURE AT FIRST WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE JET BLAST. TWR RESPONDED WITH, 'THAT ACFT WAS CLRED TO MANEUVER AT ITS OWN RISK.' WE TOOK OFF AND UPON OUR RETURN LATER IN THE DAY, DISCOVERED THAT THE CESSNA WHO HAD BEEN HOLDING 150 FT AWAY FROM US HAD REQUESTED TO BACK TAXI OFF THE PREPARED TAXI SURFACE. APPARENTLY, HE HAD SNUCK UP BEHIND US JUST AS WE WERE TAKING THE RWY. BECAUSE WE WERE ON TWR FREQ, WE DID NOT KNOW HE WAS THERE AND WERE NOT WARNED TO MONITOR OUR THRUST. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 288477: ALTHOUGH I FEEL REALLY BAD ABOUT IT, I DON'T FEEL MY PWR WAS TOO EXCESSIVE. NEITHER TWR OR GND ADVISED ME THAT I HAD A LIGHT ACFT BEHIND ME.
