Narrative:

Captain was taxiing aircraft for takeoff runway 29. We had a cockpit jumpseater at the time and a discussion between the captain and the jumpseater was taking place. At some point, the captain thought he had been cleared to taxi to runway 1 and changed his taxi course accordingly. Did not realize this error. ATC then informed us to hold our position. At which point I yelled 'stop' and put my feet on the brakes. The captain immediately stopped the aircraft just short of runway 29/11. A shorts 330 aircraft departed runway 29 at this point. No further action was taken by ATC.
