Narrative:
While taxiing out for takeoff at clt on taxiway 'M,' missed turn on taxiway 'C.' crew inadvertently crossed runway 18L without clearance. Low visibility and crew unfamiliarity with clt were contributing factors notified ground control of location, and taxied back to runway 18L. Remainder of taxi was normal. There wasn't any conflict with other aircraft. Limited tower visibility may have contributed.
