Narrative:
We took off from dca airport. The captain was flying. The captain began to drift into P-56, the prohibited area encompassing the white house, capital, washington monument and the lincoln memorial. I said, 'X, you are drifting to the right.' he said, 'yeah!' after seeing no action for 5-10 seconds, I said, 'X, you're on top of the lincoln memorial.' he said sharply, 'I know where I am!' we just cut the western edge of P-56. The 328 degree radial was full scale to the left. The dca 328 degree radial is the official departure procedure to remain clear of P-56. This was the first flight of a 3-DAY trip. I have been a first officer for the airline for 6 yrs. I just met this captain about 30 mins before takeoff. We had not flown together before. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the report has not heard from the FAA on this matter. The rest of the trip went quite well after this rather shaky start. The reporter had heard some similar stories regarding this captain. The reporter works for an air carrier that is made up of pilots from many other acrs that were merged. There are many minor differences in operating philosophy in the present air carrier.
