Narrative:

During a pilot chkout in aircraft, I was in right seat and the PF in left seat was new to type. As we taxied for takeoff we discussed with tower possibly doing an intersection takeoff. We decided to use full length and were cleared to back-taxi on runway and also for takeoff (we thought). While back-taxiing we briefed the takeoff procedures, turned around at the end of the runway, and departed. After takeoff the tower called and informed us that we had taken off without clearance. We were the only aircraft in the area so there was no traffic conflict. Apparently we were so busy briefing the takeoff and talking about aircraft procedures that neither pilot confirmed that we were actually cleared for takeoff.

Title: TKOF WITHOUT A CLRNC.

Narrative: DURING A PLT CHKOUT IN ACFT, I WAS IN R SEAT AND THE PF IN L SEAT WAS NEW TO TYPE. AS WE TAXIED FOR TKOF WE DISCUSSED WITH TWR POSSIBLY DOING AN INTXN TKOF. WE DECIDED TO USE FULL LENGTH AND WERE CLRED TO BACK-TAXI ON RWY AND ALSO FOR TKOF (WE THOUGHT). WHILE BACK-TAXIING WE BRIEFED THE TKOF PROCS, TURNED AROUND AT THE END OF THE RWY, AND DEPARTED. AFTER TKOF THE TWR CALLED AND INFORMED US THAT WE HAD TAKEN OFF WITHOUT CLRNC. WE WERE THE ONLY ACFT IN THE AREA SO THERE WAS NO TFC CONFLICT. APPARENTLY WE WERE SO BUSY BRIEFING THE TKOF AND TALKING ABOUT ACFT PROCS THAT NEITHER PLT CONFIRMED THAT WE WERE ACTUALLY CLRED FOR TKOF.
