Narrative:
Student pilot on a solo cross country became disoriented. He called flight service who attempted a direction-finding steer unsuccessfully. He was handed off to albany approach, could not confirm position on radar. The student pilot reported an airport in sight and would land there, which he did.

Title: UNAUTH LNDG. CLRNC LNDG NOT RECEIVED.
Narrative: STUDENT PLT ON A SOLO XCOUNTRY BECAME DISORIENTED. HE CALLED FLT SVC WHO ATTEMPTED A DIRECTION-FINDING STEER UNSUCCESSFULLY. HE WAS HANDED OFF TO ALBANY APCH, COULD NOT CONFIRM POS ON RADAR. THE STUDENT PLT RPTED AN ARPT IN SIGHT AND WOULD LAND THERE, WHICH HE DID.
