Narrative:

Right after takeoff a caution light was displayed on the upper CRT 'right forward entrance door.' as a precaution the decision was made to return to the field. Departure was advised. We were given clearance to climb to 4000 ft and a right turn, vectors for downwind. A frequency change was made. This next controller asked if we had the airport in sight. We said 'affirmative' and then we thought the controller cleared us for a visual approach to runway 26L. During our base to final turn the controller asked if we had a dc-10 in sight. We said 'yes' however, the controller had to vector the aircraft to give him spacing behind us. There was some confusion as to whether we had been cleared for the approach. We did not realize there was a possible conflict with air carrier. We were then turned over to tower and made an uneventful landing.

Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT CREATED BY ACFT EQUIP PROB.

Narrative: RIGHT AFTER TKOF A CAUTION LIGHT WAS DISPLAYED ON THE UPPER CRT 'R FORWARD ENTRANCE DOOR.' AS A PRECAUTION THE DECISION WAS MADE TO RETURN TO THE FIELD. DEP WAS ADVISED. WE WERE GIVEN CLRNC TO CLB TO 4000 FT AND A R TURN, VECTORS FOR DOWNWIND. A FREQ CHANGE WAS MADE. THIS NEXT CTLR ASKED IF WE HAD THE ARPT IN SIGHT. WE SAID 'AFFIRMATIVE' AND THEN WE THOUGHT THE CTLR CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 26L. DURING OUR BASE TO FINAL TURN THE CTLR ASKED IF WE HAD A DC-10 IN SIGHT. WE SAID 'YES' HOWEVER, THE CTLR HAD TO VECTOR THE ACFT TO GIVE HIM SPACING BEHIND US. THERE WAS SOME CONFUSION AS TO WHETHER WE HAD BEEN CLRED FOR THE APCH. WE DID NOT REALIZE THERE WAS A POSSIBLE CONFLICT WITH ACR. WE WERE THEN TURNED OVER TO TWR AND MADE AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG.
