Narrative:
Due to a failure of the landing gear sequence valve, the left gear door remained extended during landing. The gear door was extensively damaged during landing rollout taxi in. The crew was not aware of the problem until parked at gate. Either the illuminated gear door open light was missed by both crew members or the light never came on to indicate a malfunction. In this particular aircraft type, this light is blocked from view from both seats unless one moves the head down or to the side (movement from a normal position in the landing sequence).
