Narrative:
I was cleared to taxi to runway 26L, intersection 67. I do not fly to ont often, and it was dark. With my landing/taxi light on, I followed the yellow taxi line to intersection 67 and turned towards the runway. I saw no hold short line but stopped short of the runway anyway because I did not wish to get too close. Tower then called and stated I was on the active runway and that I should make a 180 degree turn. I replied I was not on the runway and that I would taxi back. The next day I was again at ont airport observed that the hold short line was faded, and difficult to see at day, let alone night. I discussed the matter with the tower supervisor, and was told the hold short line is farther back because of CAT III approachs. I apologized, and also stated the lines should be brighter at that intersection if it is to be used for light aircraft for takeoffs. I also recommend a sign or warning, perhaps reflector strips, on the hold short line.

Title: PLT OF AN SMA SEL TAXIED PASSED THE CAT III RWY HOLD SHORT LINE AND WAS REDIRECTED BACK BY TWR.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 26L, INTXN 67. I DO NOT FLY TO ONT OFTEN, AND IT WAS DARK. WITH MY LNDG/TAXI LIGHT ON, I FOLLOWED THE YELLOW TAXI LINE TO INTXN 67 AND TURNED TOWARDS THE RWY. I SAW NO HOLD SHORT LINE BUT STOPPED SHORT OF THE RWY ANYWAY BECAUSE I DID NOT WISH TO GET TOO CLOSE. TWR THEN CALLED AND STATED I WAS ON THE ACTIVE RWY AND THAT I SHOULD MAKE A 180 DEG TURN. I REPLIED I WAS NOT ON THE RWY AND THAT I WOULD TAXI BACK. THE NEXT DAY I WAS AGAIN AT ONT ARPT OBSERVED THAT THE HOLD SHORT LINE WAS FADED, AND DIFFICULT TO SEE AT DAY, LET ALONE NIGHT. I DISCUSSED THE MATTER WITH THE TWR SUPVR, AND WAS TOLD THE HOLD SHORT LINE IS FARTHER BACK BECAUSE OF CAT III APCHS. I APOLOGIZED, AND ALSO STATED THE LINES SHOULD BE BRIGHTER AT THAT INTXN IF IT IS TO BE USED FOR LIGHT ACFT FOR TKOFS. I ALSO RECOMMEND A SIGN OR WARNING, PERHAPS REFLECTOR STRIPS, ON THE HOLD SHORT LINE.
