Narrative:
I was watching news today about how they have not solved one of the crashes, this came to mind. Between jan/92 and may/92 I worked for a service company hired to clean aircraft that remain overnight -- 737/200, md-80 and dc-9's, at the msp airport. On one occasion I was working in the cabin cleaning and I heard a strange noise coming from the cockpit, as I was the only person in the plane I was interested to see what was causing it. I went into the cockpit and to my eerie surprise the pilots steering column was flipping out. It was shaking, vibrating, moving violently from a full forward position to a full back position and making a large amount of noise. It was not caused by wind because there was none. The plane was hooked up to a ground power unit, but as far as I know, no other gauges or instruments were on. I informed air carrier by leaving a note on their operations desk. I do not know if anything was ever done about it or if they even found out what caused it, I think this information might be helpful to repeat.
