Narrative:
Departed VFR bfi, nwbound. At 1000 ft, tower gave frequency for flight following. Contacted them, gave position and climb request. At this time under class B (floor 3500 ft) ATC said 'roger,' continued to climb. At 5600 ft ATC asked if I was familiar with class B airspace. I responded that I felt I was north of airspace and had received flight following. Controller stated that we had penetrated class B, to be more aware next time, and to climb to our requested altitude of 8500 ft. In the future, would ask for specific language to enter class B airspace.
