Narrative:
As we approached mem (beautiful clear day) controller said to plan a visual to runway 18L to keep our speed up (above 10000 ft) that there was no other traffic, he'd give us a visual later. I missed the 8 DME turn point at olivv intersection. He gave me a turn to 030 degrees at approximately 5 DME and pointed out that I had missed the turn. He said there was no traffic conflict. A little later we made a visual. Synopsis: I made a mistake and flew through the turn point! Don't plan a visual too early! Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter flies the dc-9-30 for a major united states air carrier. The failure to make the turn was 'strictly an oversight on his part' and that of the first officer. Both were enjoying the beautiful day and the no- traffic situation and waited for the 'vector turn that never came.' after the controller said 'plan a visual, you're #1' this crew forgot about the turn on the STAR.

CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR FLIES THE DC-9-30 FOR A MAJOR UNITED STATES ACR. THE FAILURE TO MAKE THE TURN WAS 'STRICTLY AN OVERSIGHT ON HIS PART' AND THAT OF THE FO. BOTH WERE ENJOYING THE BEAUTIFUL DAY AND THE NO- TFC SIT AND WAITED FOR THE 'VECTOR TURN THAT NEVER CAME.' AFTER THE CTLR SAID 'PLAN A VISUAL, YOU'RE #1' THIS CREW FORGOT ABOUT THE TURN ON THE STAR.
