Narrative:

We were cleared by tower for takeoff, climb 14000 ft MSL, out of 10000 ft MSL contact departure/center on 134.5, fly IFR departure procedure. We looked, but didn't have SID for ege. Tower told us to fly 215 degrees, contact departure or center out of 10000 ft. I asked if this was for noise abatement for gypsum off the end of runway 25. They replied 'yes, 215 degree on heading as soon as possible.' we departed, out of 10000 ft told tower we were switching. Contacted center on 134.5 they were informed, we were out of 100-140 ft on a 215 degree assigned, he again said standby. At 14 we leveled off and called again, he said roger a few seconds later he asked us if we were direct kremmling VOR about 160 degree course difference we said 'no, 215 degree assigned.' he cleared us to kremmling asked what our departure clearance was. We told him 215 degree assigned. He said he could violate us for not following IFR departure procedure. Not until we leveled off at 24000 ft did we find out that the IFR departure on the back of the approach plate, and we thought the tower 215 degree to 14000 ft was our clearance. I feel we missed a very important procedure, however when I questioned tower, they said 215 degree up to 14000 ft. We didn't have SID but now I will look on back of approach plate for information.
