Narrative:

This report covers a training flight and a flight from sadf to the owner's ranch. Prior to the flts, the reporter had a meeting with the owner to explain the necessity for a training flight as the owner and his first officer were both going for recurrent training soon. The owner admitted that he had been slow in getting a rating in the aircraft. There was an angry and embarrassing flare up over fueling the aircraft. 'The training flight went reasonably well,' but there were major problems with track and altitude deviations, as well as airspeed control, on the departure from sadf. Again the owner started his descent before he got a clearance. The reporter finally stepped up and showed that he was in command of the aircraft operation. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: (acn #'south 298264, 298270, 298269, 298305 and 298347) the reporter is on call for a company that supplies temporary pilots for many corporations and individuals. He has about 2000 hours in various models of the 'challenger' cl 600 series aircraft. The aircraft on this trip was the cl 603A model owned by an argentinean who is 'one of the 20 richest men in the world.' the aircraft flies with a us registry. The understanding that the reporter had when he accepted the job was that he was to be the copilot and the PIC. The reporter found out later that the owner/pilot was marginally qualified and not current either in the left or right seats. Since this series of episodes, the owner and his argentinean copilot have come back to school. It is the reporter's understanding that the copilot was not recommended for an ATP in the challenger. Insurance requirements are that there be 2 pilots in the challenger, both with atps. The owner formerly flew a lear. The reporter never knew what the owner would do next. The owner 'is a really good stick, but he flies as if he is the only aircraft in the sky.' the owner insisted on doing all of the communications in spanish in latin america leaving the reporter completely out of the loop as the reporter does not speak spanish. Both the reporter and the owner are about 55 yrs old. The reporter said that 'maybe I'm too straight,' but he didn't want the owner to kill him. Apparently the owner has not carried out his threat to report him 'to get his license.' the reporter is in a quandary as to what to do next, as the owner can buy his training if someone tries to deny him flying his 'toy.' the owner has an argentinean and german airman's certificate as well as an american one. There are only 2 places for recurrent training, montreal and houston, for the challenger. The reporter hopes that the owner will soon learn the proper way to operate the aircraft. 'Autocratic' described the owner around the aircraft, 'charming' away from it.

Title: TRAINING IN PROGRESS.

Narrative: THIS RPT COVERS A TRAINING FLT AND A FLT FROM SADF TO THE OWNER'S RANCH. PRIOR TO THE FLTS, THE RPTR HAD A MEETING WITH THE OWNER TO EXPLAIN THE NECESSITY FOR A TRAINING FLT AS THE OWNER AND HIS FO WERE BOTH GOING FOR RECURRENT TRAINING SOON. THE OWNER ADMITTED THAT HE HAD BEEN SLOW IN GETTING A RATING IN THE ACFT. THERE WAS AN ANGRY AND EMBARRASSING FLARE UP OVER FUELING THE ACFT. 'THE TRAINING FLT WENT REASONABLY WELL,' BUT THERE WERE MAJOR PROBS WITH TRACK AND ALT DEVS, AS WELL AS AIRSPD CTL, ON THE DEP FROM SADF. AGAIN THE OWNER STARTED HIS DSCNT BEFORE HE GOT A CLRNC. THE RPTR FINALLY STEPPED UP AND SHOWED THAT HE WAS IN COMMAND OF THE ACFT OP. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: (ACN #'S 298264, 298270, 298269, 298305 AND 298347) THE RPTR IS ON CALL FOR A COMPANY THAT SUPPLIES TEMPORARY PLTS FOR MANY CORPORATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS. HE HAS ABOUT 2000 HRS IN VARIOUS MODELS OF THE 'CHALLENGER' CL 600 SERIES ACFT. THE ACFT ON THIS TRIP WAS THE CL 603A MODEL OWNED BY AN ARGENTINEAN WHO IS 'ONE OF THE 20 RICHEST MEN IN THE WORLD.' THE ACFT FLIES WITH A US REGISTRY. THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THE RPTR HAD WHEN HE ACCEPTED THE JOB WAS THAT HE WAS TO BE THE COPLT AND THE PIC. THE RPTR FOUND OUT LATER THAT THE OWNER/PLT WAS MARGINALLY QUALIFIED AND NOT CURRENT EITHER IN THE L OR R SEATS. SINCE THIS SERIES OF EPISODES, THE OWNER AND HIS ARGENTINEAN COPLT HAVE COME BACK TO SCHOOL. IT IS THE RPTR'S UNDERSTANDING THAT THE COPLT WAS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR AN ATP IN THE CHALLENGER. INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS ARE THAT THERE BE 2 PLTS IN THE CHALLENGER, BOTH WITH ATPS. THE OWNER FORMERLY FLEW A LEAR. THE RPTR NEVER KNEW WHAT THE OWNER WOULD DO NEXT. THE OWNER 'IS A REALLY GOOD STICK, BUT HE FLIES AS IF HE IS THE ONLY ACFT IN THE SKY.' THE OWNER INSISTED ON DOING ALL OF THE COMS IN SPANISH IN LATIN AMERICA LEAVING THE RPTR COMPLETELY OUT OF THE LOOP AS THE RPTR DOES NOT SPEAK SPANISH. BOTH THE RPTR AND THE OWNER ARE ABOUT 55 YRS OLD. THE RPTR SAID THAT 'MAYBE I'M TOO STRAIGHT,' BUT HE DIDN'T WANT THE OWNER TO KILL HIM. APPARENTLY THE OWNER HAS NOT CARRIED OUT HIS THREAT TO RPT HIM 'TO GET HIS LICENSE.' THE RPTR IS IN A QUANDARY AS TO WHAT TO DO NEXT, AS THE OWNER CAN BUY HIS TRAINING IF SOMEONE TRIES TO DENY HIM FLYING HIS 'TOY.' THE OWNER HAS AN ARGENTINEAN AND GERMAN AIRMAN'S CERTIFICATE AS WELL AS AN AMERICAN ONE. THERE ARE ONLY 2 PLACES FOR RECURRENT TRAINING, MONTREAL AND HOUSTON, FOR THE CHALLENGER. THE RPTR HOPES THAT THE OWNER WILL SOON LEARN THE PROPER WAY TO OPERATE THE ACFT. 'AUTOCRATIC' DESCRIBED THE OWNER AROUND THE ACFT, 'CHARMING' AWAY FROM IT.
