Narrative:
Departed blh VOR at 2000 ft climbing to 12000 ft on V460 tracking outbound on the 257 degree radial towards trm- thermal VOR. When level at 10500 ft I contacted palm springs approach for flight following and was told to contact ZLA. Upon contacting ZLA I was told that I was in restricted airspace R2507. The controller directed me to turn to 22O degrees to exit the restricted airspace. I then proceeded direct to julian-jli VOR. At the time that I was told that I was in restricted airspace I was showing a centered needle on 257 degree radial on NAV1, NAV2 was set to julian-jli to define the shadi intersection. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter said he was flying a cessna 182. He was not looking out the window with the idea in mind of following a prescribed track laid out on a chart. He did not think of referencing his desired route with known landmarks like highway 10. He did not realize the restricted area was that close to his route.

Title: RPTR FLIES INTO RESTRICTED AREA.
Narrative: DEPARTED BLH VOR AT 2000 FT CLBING TO 12000 FT ON V460 TRACKING OUTBOUND ON THE 257 DEG RADIAL TOWARDS TRM- THERMAL VOR. WHEN LEVEL AT 10500 FT I CONTACTED PALM SPRINGS APCH FOR FLT FOLLOWING AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT ZLA. UPON CONTACTING ZLA I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS IN RESTRICTED AIRSPACE R2507. THE CTLR DIRECTED ME TO TURN TO 22O DEGS TO EXIT THE RESTRICTED AIRSPACE. I THEN PROCEEDED DIRECT TO JULIAN-JLI VOR. AT THE TIME THAT I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS IN RESTRICTED AIRSPACE I WAS SHOWING A CTRED NEEDLE ON 257 DEG RADIAL ON NAV1, NAV2 WAS SET TO JULIAN-JLI TO DEFINE THE SHADI INTXN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR SAID HE WAS FLYING A CESSNA 182. HE WAS NOT LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW WITH THE IDEA IN MIND OF FOLLOWING A PRESCRIBED TRACK LAID OUT ON A CHART. HE DID NOT THINK OF REFING HIS DESIRED RTE WITH KNOWN LANDMARKS LIKE HWY 10. HE DID NOT REALIZE THE RESTRICTED AREA WAS THAT CLOSE TO HIS RTE.
