Narrative:
On a VFR flight direct from quincy, wa (80WA) to aurora, or (3s2), I inadvertently strayed into an active restr area (R-6714 a&east), locally known as the yakima firing center. I did not know I was in the restr area until I called ZSE for VFR flight following and was informed I was there, that the area was 'hot' and that an A-6 military aircraft was operating in the area. I turned wbound and cleared the area within 2- 3 mins. I did not see the A-6 and do not believe there was ever any danger. This incident could have been prevented by better familiarity with the geographical area and terrain features. It was a beautiful, clear day and I was not paying attention to my course. I normally fly IFR so I am not accustomed to navigating through and around special use airspace.
