Narrative:
On a flight from ilg to W29, the transponder was inadvertently on the wrong frequency. It was set to the last IFR flight and not to 1200 for VFR flight. Cockpit management attention was placed on operation and using a newly installed GPS, setting up the GPS for the flight.

Title: SMA PLT FLEW WITH IFR XPONDER CODE ON A VFR FLT.
Narrative: ON A FLT FROM ILG TO W29, THE XPONDER WAS INADVERTENTLY ON THE WRONG FREQ. IT WAS SET TO THE LAST IFR FLT AND NOT TO 1200 FOR VFR FLT. COCKPIT MGMNT ATTN WAS PLACED ON OP AND USING A NEWLY INSTALLED GPS, SETTING UP THE GPS FOR THE FLT.
