Narrative:

On climb out from gillette airport, we entered IMC, upon which produced moderate to severe turbulence. While attempting to level out at assigned altitude of 11000 ft, the aircraft continued to climb in moderate to severe turbulence to an estimated 11400 ft. We were unable to maintain altitude control due to turbulence. Altitude variations were 300-400 ft either side of 11000 ft. We requested a higher altitude and were given clearance within several mins. I do not believe this caused a conflict. However, it was extremely difficult to control the aircraft. After altitude deviation there seemed to be continued moderate to severe turbulence through climb to FL180. After the flight continued as normal.

Title: AIR TAXI FLC EXPERIENCED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB WHILE IN CLB PHASE, AND REQUESTED HIGHER ALT TO AVOID TURB. ALTDEVS WERE PLUS OR MINUS 400 FT.

Narrative: ON CLBOUT FROM GILLETTE ARPT, WE ENTERED IMC, UPON WHICH PRODUCED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LEVEL OUT AT ASSIGNED ALT OF 11000 FT, THE ACFT CONTINUED TO CLB IN MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB TO AN ESTIMATED 11400 FT. WE WERE UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALT CTL DUE TO TURB. ALT VARIATIONS WERE 300-400 FT EITHER SIDE OF 11000 FT. WE REQUESTED A HIGHER ALT AND WERE GIVEN CLRNC WITHIN SEVERAL MINS. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS CAUSED A CONFLICT. HOWEVER, IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CTL THE ACFT. AFTER ALTDEV THERE SEEMED TO BE CONTINUED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB THROUGH CLB TO FL180. AFTER THE FLT CONTINUED AS NORMAL.
