Narrative:
We were cleared to fly J42 to gordonsville from over bkw VOR. The captain's chart was highlighted from a previous flight and bkw J22 was highlighted. By accident we proceeded out J22 from bkw instead of J42. The moral of the story: highlighting rtes on your chart can really help you, but sometimes it can get you in trouble.
