Narrative:
Due to a major airport renovation project, a new restaurant facility was created on the 1ST floor of the terminal. Since it opened, the air traffic facility (radar room on 3RD floor and tower cabin attendant) has been subjected to extremely strong cooking fumes odors. This is a safety concern, since the situation has affected the working conditions, at times, the fumes are so bad that it is difficult to breath normally. Concentration on air traffic duties and responsibilities is diminished. Individuals have complained that their skin and clothes become inundated with the smell of grease/smoke. This situation was reported to brown county officials operating the airport and to the restaurant manager. Also, in a recent air quality analysis, this problem was brought to the attention of the individual conducting air sampling. He stated he would be including our concerns in a forthcoming report. In addition to this NASA report, an unsafe condition report was filed with the department of transportation. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: air traffic facility manager stated by closing the fire door to the restaurant which vented into the fire escape the problem has been solved. Restaurant has been ordered by the airport management to keep the fire door closed.

Title: STRONG COOKING FUMES ODORS IN TRACON AND TWR FROM NEW RESTAURANT.
Narrative: DUE TO A MAJOR ARPT RENOVATION PROJECT, A NEW RESTAURANT FACILITY WAS CREATED ON THE 1ST FLOOR OF THE TERMINAL. SINCE IT OPENED, THE AIR TFC FACILITY (RADAR ROOM ON 3RD FLOOR AND TWR CAB) HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO EXTREMELY STRONG COOKING FUMES ODORS. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, SINCE THE SIT HAS AFFECTED THE WORKING CONDITIONS, AT TIMES, THE FUMES ARE SO BAD THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO BREATH NORMALLY. CONCENTRATION ON AIR TFC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IS DIMINISHED. INDIVIDUALS HAVE COMPLAINED THAT THEIR SKIN AND CLOTHES BECOME INUNDATED WITH THE SMELL OF GREASE/SMOKE. THIS SIT WAS RPTED TO BROWN COUNTY OFFICIALS OPERATING THE ARPT AND TO THE RESTAURANT MGR. ALSO, IN A RECENT AIR QUALITY ANALYSIS, THIS PROB WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTN OF THE INDIVIDUAL CONDUCTING AIR SAMPLING. HE STATED HE WOULD BE INCLUDING OUR CONCERNS IN A FORTHCOMING RPT. IN ADDITION TO THIS NASA RPT, AN UNSAFE CONDITION RPT WAS FILED WITH THE DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: AIR TFC FACILITY MGR STATED BY CLOSING THE FIRE DOOR TO THE RESTAURANT WHICH VENTED INTO THE FIRE ESCAPE THE PROB HAS BEEN SOLVED. RESTAURANT HAS BEEN ORDERED BY THE ARPT MGMNT TO KEEP THE FIRE DOOR CLOSED.
