Narrative:

Our crew accepted takeoff clearance from phl tower without having a full route clearance from ATC. We recognized the problem immediately after liftoff when we switched to departure control. We maintained VMC while establishing IFR clearance from departure which was immediately issued with a squawk. The remainder of the flight was uneventful. All checklists were performed to include briefing the departure. Unfortunately this briefing was done with reference to the ship's paper work and not reference to pre departure clearance on ACARS. This was in spite of all zeros in transponder to help prevent this situation.

Title: FAR. FLC DID NOT OBTAIN A RTE CLRNC BEFORE TKOF. TRACON OBTAINED ONE FOR THE ACR CREW.

Narrative: OUR CREW ACCEPTED TKOF CLRNC FROM PHL TWR WITHOUT HAVING A FULL RTE CLRNC FROM ATC. WE RECOGNIZED THE PROB IMMEDIATELY AFTER LIFTOFF WHEN WE SWITCHED TO DEP CTL. WE MAINTAINED VMC WHILE ESTABLISHING IFR CLRNC FROM DEP WHICH WAS IMMEDIATELY ISSUED WITH A SQUAWK. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. ALL CHKLISTS WERE PERFORMED TO INCLUDE BRIEFING THE DEP. UNFORTUNATELY THIS BRIEFING WAS DONE WITH REF TO THE SHIP'S PAPER WORK AND NOT REF TO PDC ON ACARS. THIS WAS IN SPITE OF ALL ZEROS IN XPONDER TO HELP PREVENT THIS SIT.
