Narrative:

Captain flying the aircraft descending to 6000 ft MSL being vectored on a heading of 310 degrees by dca approach. Attention diverted to other duties. Altitude was 5650 ft when the error was noticed by me. The flight climbed back to 5850 ft and at that time the flight was cleared to 3000 ft by ATC. No TCASII advisories nor any ATC advisories occurred. Flight landed without incident at dca. Supplemental information from acn 307067: on descent my thoughts were a clearance to 3000 ft.
