Narrative:
On meinz 7 arrival to msp, ATC cleared our flight to cross canen intersection at 11000 ft. As we were only 5 mi from canen intersection, we realized that I was looking at peppr intersection (15 mi from fgt), not canen (20 mi from fgt VOR). We quickly tried to make the crossing restr once we realized our error. Perhaps better observance of 'STAR,' and crew discussion would have avoided this error. Also, the 'STAR' shows intxns very close together, which lends itself to confusion.
