Narrative:
Encountered severe turbulence en route. Flight attendants were in the process of getting strapped in when turbulence hit. Passenger were strapped in. A lady holding a lap baby was banged up a bit when the lap baby's foot inadvertently released the seat belt and they went flying through the cabin. Mother and baby ok but shaken up (bruises, etc). A copy of the rough draft of my report to the company is attached. This report is far more detailed than the edited report that was actually turned into the company. The lawyers made me shorten my report considerably! But my unedited version, which is attached, is the truth and is exactly what happened. (No, I didn't lie to the company. Union simply told me to leave out details, ok, whatever. This is what happened. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: the reporter stated he was flying an ATR 72. He saw other aircraft and heard other aircraft in the vicinity on the party line. None mentioned severe turbulence. He was encountering light snow from time to time but no heavy precipitation. He could occasionally see high buildups around and told the passenger to be seated. Shortly thereafter he encountered about 15 seconds of severe turbulence not accompanied by any precipitation to speak of.

A LADY HOLDING A LAP BABY WAS BANGED UP A BIT WHEN THE LAP BABY'S FOOT INADVERTENTLY RELEASED THE SEAT BELT AND THEY WENT FLYING THROUGH THE CABIN. MOTHER AND BABY OK BUT SHAKEN UP (BRUISES, ETC). A COPY OF THE ROUGH DRAFT OF MY RPT TO THE COMPANY IS ATTACHED. THIS RPT IS FAR MORE DETAILED THAN THE EDITED RPT THAT WAS ACTUALLY TURNED INTO THE COMPANY. THE LAWYERS MADE ME SHORTEN MY RPT CONSIDERABLY! CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: THE RPTR STATED HE WAS FLYING AN ATR 72. HE SAW OTHER ACFT AND HEARD OTHER ACFT IN THE VICINITY ON THE PARTY LINE. NONE MENTIONED SEVERE TURB. HE WAS ENCOUNTERING LIGHT SNOW FROM TIME TO TIME BUT NO HVY PRECIPITATION. HE COULD OCCASIONALLY SEE HIGH BUILDUPS AROUND AND TOLD THE PAX TO BE SEATED. SHORTLY THEREAFTER HE ENCOUNTERED ABOUT 15 SECONDS OF SEVERE TURB NOT ACCOMPANIED BY ANY PRECIPITATION TO SPEAK OF.
